March 7, 2025
Packing fragile items for a move can be nerve-wracking. The last thing you want is to find your precious belongings broken upon arrival. At Hudson's Pack N Move, we’ve mastered the art of packing delicate items to ensure they reach their destination intact. Here’s our ultimate guide to packing fragile items for a safe and stress-free move.
1. Gather the Right Supplies Before you start packing, make sure you have the necessary materials:
- Sturdy boxes in various sizes
- Bubble wrap
- Packing paper or newspaper
- Packing peanuts or foam inserts
- Packing tape
- Scissors or a box cutter
- Labels and markers
2. Prepare Your Boxes
- Reinforce the Bottom: Double-tape the bottom of each box to prevent it from breaking under the weight.
- Cushion the Bottom: Add a layer of packing peanuts or crumpled packing paper to the bottom of the box for added cushioning.
3. Wrap Each Item Individually
- Glassware: Wrap each piece of glassware in packing paper, then in bubble wrap. Place them upright in the box and fill any gaps with packing peanuts.
- Dishes: Wrap dishes individually with packing paper. Stack them vertically in the box with packing paper between each one. Fill gaps with crumpled paper or bubble wrap.
- Lamps: Disassemble lamps and wrap each part separately. Use a sturdy box and fill any empty spaces with packing peanuts.
- Picture Frames and Mirrors: Use corner protectors for frames and wrap each piece in bubble wrap. Place them vertically in the box and fill any gaps with packing paper.
4. Pack Smartly
- Heaviest Items First: Place the heaviest items at the bottom of the box and lighter items on top.
- Fill Gaps: Use packing peanuts, crumpled paper, or bubble wrap to fill any empty spaces in the box to prevent items from shifting during transit.
- Limit Weight: Keep the weight of each box manageable. Overpacking can cause boxes to break and make them difficult to move.
5. Seal and Label Boxes
- Seal Securely: Close the box and seal it with packing tape. For added security, tape around the sides and edges of the box.
- Label Clearly: Clearly mark the box as “Fragile” and indicate the contents and destination room. This ensures movers handle the box with extra care.
6. Special Considerations
- Electronics: Remove batteries from devices and wrap each item in bubble wrap. Use original packaging if available, or sturdy boxes with ample padding.
- Liquids: Ensure liquids are sealed tightly and placed in leak-proof containers. Pack them upright in a waterproof bag or bin.
- Sentimental Items: For irreplaceable items, consider transporting them yourself or using special handling services.
